We want to make things a little more personal with our clients and potential new clients. We understand that there is a lot of information on the Internet about waxing, health and beauty, and skin care related topics. In an effort to cut through the madness, we sat down with The Wax Shop Founder, Esthetician and waxing expert, Tanya Lisitsa, to put her spin on answering some of the most common questions out there – questions that she hears most from her clients. Her answers reflect the brand and what to expect here at The Wax Shop.
Q: Several reviews on The Wax Shop mention a “painless wax.” Can you elaborate on that?
A: The Wax Shop employees the most experienced, skilled technicians in the field of skin care. Their technique is unmatched. The reason the waxing process is painless is because it is quick, properly executed and using high quality wax.
Q: How should clients prepare for a waxing appointment?
A: If after shaving, the client has to wait 2-3 weeks at least before the appointment, take a shower, exfoliate, and moisturize the skin.
Q: What kind of wax do you use?
A: We use a product called honey wax, which is a hot, soft wax that is applied with a one-time use spatula, and then removed with muslin (a kind of soft cloth).
Q: What is the best way to avoid ingrown hairs?
A: The best way to avoid ingrown hair is to wax regularly, in 6-8 week intervals, exfoliate the skin with a Loofah and use Exfoliating Pads that prevent ingrown hair, and not wear very tight clothing that may irritate the skin.
Q: If skin is irritated post-wax, what should you do?
A: You cannot go to a pool, gym, beach, sunbathe or have intercourse (if getting a bikini wax) for at least 3 days after a wax, as there is a risk of infection. If irritated, then you can use aloe vera gel and/or anti-infection cream, such as Neosporin.
Q: What are the top benefits of getting a facial, and how often do you recommend getting them?
A: The top benefits of facials is keeping the skin clean and healthy, as we deep clean the skin through steam, cleanse and extractions, as well as hydrate the skin, which is essential for keeping the skin young, firm and radiating. You should get a facial once a month.
Q: What are some of the biggest beauty recommendations you share with your clients?
A: There is no one universal recommendation, since all of our clients are different, our recommendation for everyone is different depending on their needs and wishes for their skin. The most common issue we see is that people do not hydrate or moisturize the skin enough or at all. This is the key to healthy skin.
Q: What type of facial do you recommend for someone seeking anti-aging benefits?
A: We recommend our anti-aging facials, where we use the most advanced and current techniques and organic, natural products available to recharge the skin and take off signs of aging. Anti-aging especially requires consistency and upkeep. In order to keep the skin looking young, clients should make regular appointments.
Q: For acne-prone skin, do you recommend facials?
A: Yes. What facials are recommended? We recommend our Teen Anti-Acne Facial. This facial concentrates on extractions and deep cleaning the face and using light product application designed specifically for skin that is prone for acne.
Q: What foods do you find most effective to achieve healthier skin?
A: For keeping skin healthy and young, we recommend eating organic fruits and vegetables, preferably first thing in the morning, in the form of a smoothie. That is the best gift you can give yourself and your skin. It charges you for the rest of the day with essential vitamins, minerals, nutrients and antioxidants to give healthy, radiant, happy skin.
